As of August 2023, Echo Austin estimates that over 6,197 people experienced homelessness in Austin or Travis County on a single day. This staggering number encompasses both unsheltered individuals and sheltered homelessness.
The City of Austin reports that 35% of our population faces the burden of high housing costs, allocating 30% or more of their monthly income to housing expenses.
A recent study by the Austin Board of Realtors (ABoR) underscores the pervasive challenge of housing, recording shortages in all 10 city council districts.

Mobile Loaves and Fishes: Building More Than Affordable Homes
Mobile Loaves & Fishes is a social outreach ministry that serves its formerly homeless neighbors by providing food, clothing, and other life-sustaining items, creating affordable, permanent housing, and empowering individuals to rediscover their God-given talents and move those talents into the economy.
Our involvement with Mobile Loaves and Fishes includes building the new "Living Room" community space and the Community Works HUB Building for residents to utilize their Arts & Crafts skills at the Community First! Village in Austin, TX. It's a testament to our belief that constructing buildings involves creating spaces where people can come together, connect, and thrive.
Austin Habitat For Humanity: A Commitment to Sustainable Impact
Austin Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to ending the cycle of poverty housing by building affordable housing, offering home repairs, advocacy work, and providing financial counseling.
Our CEO, Chris Engen, served on the Board of Directors of Habitat for Humanity for six years from 2015 to 2021. ECI was honored to build the new AHFH headquarters, which received a 4-star rating from the Austin Energy Green Building Program. It's not just a building but a sustainable hub reflecting our commitment to sustainable construction and community support.
